Dear Friends,
I hope everyone had a great 4th of July!
- We've heard some confusion from people about our specific winemaking services. To keep it simple, you can either come in to the winery to make your custom wine yourself and we will teach you how (our Personalized Winemaking service), or we can make your custom wine for you—and I'll personally deliver your 30 bottles to you for free at your request (our
Adopt-a-Jug service).
- Sometimes you get tired of hearing people tell you how much better wines made at Lakeland Winery taste than wines they buy in the store—but it's true! We use award-winning juice concentrate kits from Winexpert. From start to finish, our wines have a consistent quality unmatched anywhere else. And the best part is, wines made from juice concentrate kits taste like top-shelf $20 bottles of wine, when you're getting them at wholesale prices—for as little as $5 each
!

- Summers are hot and humid in Upstate New York, which is the time of the year when our light and refreshing Fruit Wines are a popular choice. And if you want to make 30 bottles of your own custom Island Mist fruit wine at our winery, your wine will be ready to drink in only 4 weeks
! Some choices from our Wine List include Green Apple Riesling, Peach Apricot Chardonnay, Exotic Fruit White Zinfandel, and Kiwi Pear Sauvignon Blanc.
Don't forget to keep tabs on my Wine Blog. If you haven't been to my blog recently, you can now subscribe to Andy's Wine Blog by email. Yes, we love technology. But we love the wine more. :)

As you know, anyone who wants to legally make their own wine at our winery must sign up—by law—to become a member affiliated with Lakeland Winery, and what better way to easily do this than on our new social networking site at http://www.lakelandwinemakingclub.com
This replaces the old Lakeland Winemaking Club site we had over at wine.meetup.com and is separate from the Syracuse Wine Meetup Group (for the wineos), as it's intended for "Official" Lakeland Winery Winemakers (self-made wineos) to discuss winemaking, ask questions, write blog posts, talk about your winemaking experiences and tips, post pictures, videos, chat, or simply waste time at work!
Think: Facebook for winemakers. (Speaking of which, you can become a fan of Lakeland Winery on Facebook too.)
Syracuse Wine Meetup Group "Summer Drinks in the Vineyard" on Friday, July 18th
When
Friday, July 18th, at 7pm.
Where
Lakeland Winery
This month is the Syracuse Wine Meetup Group's "Summer Drinks in the Vineyard" event. The vineyard now has a trellis system to help keep the vines off the ground, and keep the long branches from breaking. Bring a beach chair and we'll lounge in the vineyard under the partly sunny sky, sipping wine. Bring a bottle of your favorite New York wine with a New York snack, and your favorite Summer New York shorts...It'll be hot!
Winemaking Tip of the Month: Temperature
I know this is elementary by dear winos, but I still remember 5 years ago when I didn't know Cabernet Sauvignon was wine, let alone a dry red wine.
But, someone came into the winery tonight and bought a bottle of Russo Fortissimo (a dry red wine) after I told him, "This is the wine that got me into the winemaking business." As he was leaving he asked, "Should I refrigerate this?" I smiled and said, "No you may like it better at room temperature." That's about 70 degrees.
As for storage though, all wines should be stored at a cooler (not refrigerated) basement temperature—somewhere between 40 and 55 degrees. This delays the maturing and aging period as your wine slowly grows into maturity. Any wine will age faster at warmer temperatures, but it won't taste or feel as good as a 53 year old man who's lived out life on the road of hard knocks.
What a mellow fellow he will be :)

Winemaking Limited Edition: Selection International Spanish Rosé
Winexpert, the provider of our juice concentrate kits, is pleased and excited about this summer's Seasonal Release Spanish Rosé. Based on a blend of boldly fruity Spanish Tempranillo and crisp white varietals, this wine is luscious, medium bodied and refreshingly dry.
The Selection International Spanish Rosé has bracing acidity for a crisp mouthfeel, abundant fruit for excellent aromas and an alcohol content that doesn't interfere with taste perceptions—and invites another glass!
If you have any questions about our Limited Release Spanish Rosé please contact us—but hurry, because they'll be going fast!
